Reiki Treatment

Commonly asked questions

I'm  here for you - feel free to ask me any questions

What will my first session be like?

In your first session I will take a history and do an examination which will vary depending on whether I'm providing a massage or reiki session.  I will take some written notes along the way.

For any type of treatment, at any time, if you change your mind about how you want the treatment to occur, about the pressure of touch etc, I will adjust accordingly.

Massage

An examination may include a postural assessment and range of motion testing.

I will then talk through what I consider to be a good way to approach the session, taking account of your wants and needs and physical presentation.  I will seek your views, adjust anything as needed and then commence with the massage treatment, a hands on treatment modality.

Relaxation massage is usually gentle, however you may ask for a firmer pressure.  It is common to still have some firmer work done on trouble areas and this may be uncomfortable.  Deep tissue massage is firmer and can be uncomfortable during treatment and afterwards.  At any stage I can adjust pressure.

Reiki

The reiki assessment will involve me placing my hands on parts of your body, with your permission, such as your knees, hips and shoulders as well ask asking you where you would like to focus.

I will then, with consent, start treatment, placing my hands on parts of your body to provide the reiki treatment.  I  may ask questions, seek feedback, or discuss other insights as they occur and depending on your preferences at the time.

Reiki touch is a gentle to firm touch but it should not hurt at any stage.  You may feel a range of sensations in your body including warmth, cool, tingling, a sense of heaviness or a sense of expansion and weightlessness.

Reiki can also include the use of crystal grids and I may use crystals in my work with you.

For massage or reiki I can play relaxing music and/or use essential oils and other fragrances as you like.

Do you treat patients with severe health problems?

I can usually work with someone who has severe health problems, however some health problems (acute or chronic) may be contraindicated.  If you are unsure, please ask me prior to your session.

Can you work on someone with a terminal or chronic illness?

I can usually work with someone who has a terminal or chronic illness, however I do not claim that I can heal such illnesses.

If you are unsure if I will be able to work with you because of your condition, please ask in advance.

For those with chronic or terminal illness, supportive therapies such as massage and reiki can be soothing and nurturing.

Massage

I am qualified in relaxation and deep tissue massage therapy.  For healing/treatment of conditions, remedial massage may be a better options.

Relaxation and deep tissue therapy help with relaxation of the soft tissues (muscles) and the connective tissues (including the ligaments and tendons), and can help with tight muscles.

Reiki

Reiki is a supportive therapy that can affect the body and mind and help bring balance, stress reduction and relaxation.

What is your cancellation policy?

My cancellation policy is the full session cost in the case of a no show to a session or a cancellation with less than 24 hours notice.

How do I pay for my session?

Payment is required at the time of the appointment and can be in cash or a direct debit made and receipt for the transfer provided.
I provide receipts for my services.

What if I decide that I don't want you to work on a certain party of my body?

With all treatments your consent and comfort are my first priority. If you change your mind at any time I will adjust the treatment accordingly.
There are some areas I will not treat on or near - near the breasts or chest and the genitals. I may ask if you would like and be comfortable to receive massage work through the gluteals (buttocks) and/or the pecs (high on the chest) if these areas would benefit from massage treatment but this is all up to you.

Is there parking at the clinic?

There is parking here, you are welcome to park in the driveway very close to the front door.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes.
For a reiki session you will remain fully clothed.
For a massage session you will be asked to remove clothes as much as your are comfortable with down to your underwear (depending on what areas I will be working on).  You will be draped with towels at all times except for the area I am actively working on at that time and your private areas will not be exposed.  After the massage your skin may be a bit oily from the massage oil.

Can I claim under my private health insurance?

Unfortunately I do not have the qualifications (Remedial massage therapy) to claim under private health insurance.

You are a home based business - will my treatment be confidential?

Yes it will. I use screens to separate my family from the walkway to the clinic.  You should not see my family nor should they see you.
The entry from the driveway is fairly private also.

What should I do before/after my session?

It is ideal if you can have some quiet time after your session. It is best to both before and after hydrate well, refrain from alcohol and other drugs.  You may be provided with some strength or stretch activity homework or other homework related to the work we have done together.
